Voice conversations
Your first AI voice conversation: what to say and what to check
Start your first AI voice conversation with one concrete thing from your day and tell the app how you want it to respond. You do not need a dramatic story, a perfect question or a long personal introduction.
Before you turn on the microphone
Choose somewhere you can hear comfortably, check the current usage limits and read what happens to your voice. Audio, transcripts and saved memories are different records. A product may avoid storing recordings while still retaining the words you spoke.
In Fari, call audio is not stored, while voice-call transcripts are stored to provide the service. Voice is processed by the AI provider described in the privacy policy. Use a harmless topic for your first call. Avoid account credentials, private information about other people or anything you would not want processed by the service.
Pick an opening that gives the conversation somewhere to go
A broad “tell me something” leaves the direction entirely to the model. A small observation gives you more control. You could mention a meal you made, a project you started or something you are deciding between. Add one preference for how the conversation should work.
These are starting prompts you can adapt, not recordings of actual Fari conversations. An AI response may vary, misunderstand you or need a correction.
I made time for a walk today. Ask me one thing about it, and keep your replies short.
I have two ideas for the weekend. Can I talk them through before you offer suggestions?
I want to practise introducing myself in English. Let me finish, then suggest one clearer sentence.
Say what kind of response you want
If the reply is too long, ask for one or two sentences. If it moves into advice too quickly, ask it to listen and clarify first. If speech recognition gets a word wrong, repeat that part explicitly. You do not have to continue a conversation built on the wrong assumption.
Notice the practical details: whether you can understand the voice, how the wait feels between turns and whether you know how to end the call. These observations are more useful than deciding after one answer that the AI “gets you.” Natural-sounding speech is still generated output, not evidence of understanding or human feelings.
Can you keep it to two sentences and one question?
You heard “Friday,” but I said “Sunday.” Please use Sunday from here on.
End with one useful takeaway
Stop when you have what you wanted: a clearer choice, a sentence to practise or simply a chance to speak. You do not owe an AI a long conversation. Write down one takeaway in your own words so you can decide later whether it was useful.
If the conversation involved a detail you want to carry forward, check the app’s saved memories rather than relying on a verbal promise. Review anything saved and remove details that no longer belong there. If you want a written reflection, a short journal entry is another way to keep the part that matters.
